Loving Our Neighbors (Part 1)
Last October 2016, myself and other members from Singles for Christ went on a mission trip to Kenya where we visited some of the children sponsored through 'Answering the Cry of the Poor (ANCOP). The ANCOP's mission is providing child education, community development, and humanitarian relief in the Philippines, Kenya, India, etc. Link in bio for more info on ANCOP.
When we visited the kids in Kenya, at first it was hard to witness their living conditions - some classrooms didn't have proper walls or ceilings; some kids own a tiny pencil; some classes share a sharpener & eraser; notebooks made out of newspaper, kids with worn out uniforms; wheelchairs that didn't have proper brakes; homes that didn't have electricity; kids abandoned by their parents because of disability and the list can go on. The mission trip made me realize how much things I take for granted and also it made me ask myself, "How many clothes/shoes do I actually own and need?; How much money do I spend on unnecessary things?" A LOT! This is one of the reasons why I gave up shopping since last year. Truly, we live in a well-off country compared to third world countries where a lot of people skip a meal/struggle to eat a meal a day; have no access to clean water; kids who walk 3-5 km to school/home; kids that can't attend school because of financial issues, etc.
Truly, we are blessed to have more which is why it is fair to share what we have to those who are in need. Being able to help others is a calling for all of us. More than a responsibility, it is a gift. During our mission trip in Africa, the kids taught me more than I taught them. They inspired me to be joyful and to be content with what I have. During this Lenten season, we are encouraged to give to our brothers and sisters who are in need. If you're interested in donating and/or sponsoring a child, please message me or click link on my bio
Challenge: Donate the money you have saved through fasting to those who are in need.
