PLEASE STOP AND LOOK AT THESE OLD ASS DRAWINGS 😂 I can say with almost total confidence that these were drawn towards the beginning of the Pokémon anime hype train, so probably 1999 or 2000, which means I was likely between 4 and 6 when I drew this. I'm not sure if I used my Pokémon cards or a movie cover for reference (or my memory??), but these are fantastic. 😆 Mewtwo is 10/10 the most accurate one here.
I remember when I was a wee tyke, I'd go over to my aunt and uncle's house a lot. My cousins Josh and Mikey had the coolest room: bunk beds with Pokémon bedding, Pokémon curtains, a Pokéball beanbag chair, a display of gold cards (Josh gave me his Charizard card, which I still have), a collection of trading cards, Pokémon figurines, A MOTHERFUCKING FUCTIONAL POKÉDEX THAT I STILL THINK IS RAD AF, and a TV that seemed to always be showing Pokémon. It was and still is my dream room. (The only thing I owned that was cooler was a Pikachu coin bank that said "Pika! Pikachu!" every time I put a coin in it.) Such an innocent and pure time, untainted by gen 7 monstrosities. UwU🌸 I really miss being a kid, when Pokémon was still shiny and new, and my attention would often be fixed on Pokémon Yellow or Crystal. Every new card I collected excited me, and I could watch the movies dozens of times and never tire of them. I was genuinely inspired by the series, and gave me a sort of happiness that nothing since has been able to give me. The more I think about it, Pokémon was really a huge part of my childhood, and continues to be an important part of my life. 💛💙😌 Nothing will ever compare.
