Truly one to remember. The Blue Jays' offence exploded to beat the Cincinnati Reds, 17-2.
Toronto's pitching and defence was great, but our offence managed to get a combined 23 hits! Everyone from the starting lineup (except Kevin Pillar) was able to at least get one hit.
Surprisingly, the Reds had a lead when Adam Duvall singled to bring home Billy Hamilton in the top of the 1st. 1-0 Reds.
Toronto took the lead in the bottom of the second when Russell Martin hit a 2-run homer to right field. 2-1 Blue Jays
In the third, Josh Donaldson scored when Justin Smoak grounded out. Then, Troy Tulowitzki hit hit fourth career grand slam to extend the lead by four more runs. 7-1 Blue Jays.
In the fourth, Justin Smoak hit a 3-run homer to right centre field. 10-1 Blue Jays.
In the next inning, Devon Travis scored on a balk, and Ezequiel Carrera scored when out Josh Donaldson grounded out. Then, Kevin Pillar scored when Kendrys Morales singled to left field. 13-1 Blue Jays.
In the top of the 6th, Adam Duvall hit a solo home run to right centre field. 13-2 Blue Jays.
The Blue Jays continued to extend their lead when Kendrys Morales scored on Russell Martin's double, and Devon Travis plated Martin after singling to right field in the seventh inning. 15-2 Blue Jays.
Finally, in the eighth, Ryan Goins singled to bring home Kendrys Morales, and Devon Travis singled to score Justin Smoak. Final score: 17-2 Blue Jays.
Marcus Stroman was given the win after pitching a great six innings. Stroman struck out five batters and only allowed two runs to score on five hits. The bullpen (Leone and Howell) pitched an almost flawless three combined innings.
The Reds pitching had a rough night. Starting pitcher, Lisalverto Bonilla was given the loss. Bonilla allowed six runs to score on three hits and five walks in only 2.1 innings. Robert Stephenson relived Bonilla but was unable to stop Toronto from hitting. In two innings pitched, he gave up seven runs (six earned) on ten hits and one walk. Jake Buchanan, who pitched the final 3.2 innings, only allowed four runs to score on ten hits and one walks.
