"I rolled over in bed, and looked at the clock on my bedside table.
17 minutes before midnight.
I was thirsty, and I was going to go all the way to the kitchen to have a glass of water, then return to bed.
Just a simple task.
I sat up, and got out of bed. Wanting to reduce any noise I would make, I chose not to wear slippers.
I slowly made my way to the top of the staircase in the dark. For some reason, the night felt creepy. There was a cold wind about, with the source unknown, and a few creaks and soft thuds around the place.
I gulped. My simple task seemed like a deadly mission now.
I went down the stairs, each step causing a creak, each creak sending shivers down my spine.
At the bottom of the stairs, I felt someone's presence near me. Panicking, I ran, and crashed into a figure.
With that, I heard the shatter of glass around me. With chills down my spine, trembling from head to toe, fear taking over me, I screamed.
Lights came on, and in front of me stood my very surprised mother, and fragments of what used to be glass cups around us.
Embarrassment overtook my fear."
