How often do you clock in at or under the time you've allotted for a task? I am able to get through this. In life, there are situations that can be seen as either easy or difficult. Many times, the only difference is in how I view them, and how I choose to approach or handle the situations. It all about my mindset. That is why I am choosing to see every situation from a positive standpoint. No matter the kind of situation, I know that I am able to get through it, because I have what it takes. I am smart. I am confident, and I have the necessary skills. I take a proactive approach, never backing down. Anxiety has no hold over me. I am strong, and I cannot be held back. I have the necessary skills needed to stay calm and to relax. I am in control of my thoughts. I only think positive thoughts. I take deep breaths. I have a backup plan should I need to leave the situation. This comforts me. I trust my inner judgment and intuition. I have very good thinking skills, so I am good at making decisions that are good for the situation I am encountering. I am able to get through this! Self-reflection questions: 1. Kashdan Ph.D. My mother was a beautiful woman, breast cancer left several scars When I was 9 months old, she had a mastectomy Three months later, my father divorced her, moving in with his mistress We were left without an adult male role model Nobody to teach us how to ride a bike, change a flat tire, strum a guitar, and ask insightful questions to trigger new friendships I remember that she dated 3 guys at the same time to speed up the pace of finding "the one" If only she could look at herself as beautiful- a lost breast being inconsequential, a derelict first husband being irrelevant If only she could tolerate the pain of being alone, until the right person showed up and if not, we will thrive as a household of three If only she knew that it was normal to be scared, doubtful, and lonely raising two little boys with death breathing a bit too heavily on her neck My advice has been consistent for over a decade - the ability to tolerate pain People who lack the capacity to withstand physical discomfort, negative emotions, frustration, and uncertainty are at a marked disadvantage in life When faced with challenges, they react with greater emotional distress but this is not the problem Instead of dealing with the challenge at hand, their energy gets diverted to worrying, procrastinating, and pursuing harmful activities to take away the pain - from excessive alcohol and drug use, binging and purging behaviors, and verbal and physical aggression toward others When we better understand, tolerate, and harness distressing thoughts and feelings, and become aware of the situations when they are helpful, we become empowered We gain vitality We become whole

I accept others for who they are. Unless I plan to live the life of a hermit, I am going to run into people everywhere. This means coming into contact with different kinds of personalities, and potential for clashes. I however, choose not to let these differences be a source of contention. Instead, I accept others for who they are. I realize that if we were all made the same, that this world would be a very boring place indeed. I have my unique gifts that I bring to this world. My neighbor has his own gifts, as do my co-workers. Instead of looking at the differences in our personalities as negative things, I choose to accept these differences and learn from them. I also choose to let the little things slide. No one is perfect. I am not perfect, and I cannot expect others to be perfect. When I accept others for who they are, the world becomes smaller and friendlier. It also causes me less anxiety, as it reminds me that I cannot control what everyone else says and does. I am only in control of myself. Accepting others for who they are does not mean that I let negative and energysucking people into my life. To do that would be foolish, and not conducive to my own mental health. Instead, it simply means learning to go with the flow, and not letting my reactions to other people interfere with my happiness. I am happy, and that begins by being patient with everyone, including myself. Self-reflection questions: 1. Do I accept others for who they are? 2. What can I do the next time I am faced with someone with a different Personality from my own in order that I can show acceptance? 3. What can I not control in others? Realizing this can make my anxiety much less when faced with these circumstances.

Anxiety: The New Normal Of 20-Something Life Kovie Biakolo I had to take a mental health day off I did start writing something that only had the effect of opening up old wounds or maybe finally dealing with them and it was the trigger of strong feelings of helplessness and hopelessness I cried pretty regularly throughout the day, anxiety, stress, tears, and panic This isn’t “normal” I think anxiety is the new normal of the twenty something life How can it not be? A generation that much was expected from is seemingly not living up to expectations That aside, the twenties are a transition now more than ever from essentially being a child to being an adult, and all the professional, financial, personal, and spiritual challenges that go along with that But I think instead, we medicate I’ve always medicated by overworking, over-exercising, over-consuming food or alcohol And indeed it is not limited to these for many in my generation Sometimes it’s drugs, or sex; it can be anything, and it can be everything The problem with medicating with things you shouldn’t, or things you shouldn’t do too much, catches up with you You don’t have to face your twenty something anxieties alone I’m anxious about the future – not in ten years The six-month future. Sometimes I wish I could just fast-forward to it because I think in that place, I will be 100% Except we’re never 100% In six months, I’ll have a different set of challenges to solve Maybe I won’t need a mental health day but none of us are ever problem-free Keeping your life and lifestyle in moderation helps; talking helps You are not your anxiety, your worries, or your problems These things will pass because they always do They might be part of the big picture of your life but they are not the picture itself Never lose sight of that big picture And the picture will always be more beautiful because of it
