@ubcpolitics Trump Organization's golf clubs across the United States and Europe have been caught displaying fake TIME Magazine covers showing off President Trump's 'accomplishments'⠀ ⠀ Many issues were older, praising the success of the President's TV show 'The Apprentice' and more suggesting that these fake issues of TIME have been being made and displayed for a long time.⠀ ⠀ “I can confirm that this is not a real TIME cover,” Kerri Chyka, a spokesperson for the publication, wrote to The Washington Post in an email.⠀ ⠀ In a press conference last year, the President also gave an inaccurate number of how many issues he had been in.⠀ ⠀ Tags: #donaldtrump #trump #usa #us #unitedstates #politics #ivankattrump #maga #erictrump #trumpfamily

Brazilian President Michel Temer is now being charged for government corruption, after being accused of accepting bribes. ⠀ Mr. Temer allegedly accepted a bribe from Joesly Batista, the chairman of the giant meat packing business, JBS, for about $150,000 USD, around March or April of this year. The case is going to be passed down to the Chamber of Deputies in Congress in which Congress will decide if the case shall be further investigated or if Mr. Temer will be impeached. ⠀ Mr. Temer denies all accusations and refuses to resign even after pressure from the public. ⠀ This follows Brazil's history of corruption after last Brazilian President, Dilma Rousseff was impeached last year for alleged government budget manipulation. ⠀ Tags: #ubcbrazil #ubcnews #news #reports #brazil #corruption #government

A new video released by the right wing group, Project Veritas, shows an executive producer at CNN, John Bonifield, describing his networks coverage of congressional investigations into possible connections between United States President Donald Trump and Russia as "Bull****." It should be noted that Bonifield's view does not necessarily represent that of CNN and his claims on camera cannot be confirmed. As cuts are made in the video, it is also possible that Bonifield's words are taken out of context. The United States government believes that the government of Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad is preparing to launch another chemical gas attack. United States Press Secretary Sean Spicer said in a statement, "The United States has identified potential preparations for another chemical weapons attack by the Assad regime that would likely result in the mass murder of civilians, including innocent children. The activities are similar to preparations the regime made before its April 4, 2017, chemical weapons attack." Spicer further added, "As we have previously stated, the United States is in Syria to eliminate the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria. If, however, Mr. Assad conducts another mass murder attack using chemical weapons, he and his military will pay a heavy price." Specifics about the potential strike or any preparation for it have not been released. Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdogan has denied and deemed disrespectful a request by the Saudi Arabian government for Turkey to remove it's troops from Qatar. In a speech made in Istanbul, President Erdogan said, to ask "Turkey to pull out its troops from Qatar is firstly disrespectful behaviour towards us. We don’t need permission from anyone to establish military bases among partners. We endorse and appreciate Qatar’s stance towards the 13 demands. It’s a very, very ugly approach to try to interfere with our agreement.” Tags: #ubcpolitics #ubcnews #ubcturkey #ubcqatar #mideast #crisis #diplomacy #erdogan #saudiarabia #foreign #affairs #ankara #riyadh #doha #gulf

A new report from Pulitzer Prize winning journalist, Seymour Hersh, suggests that United States President Donald Trump's decision to launch cruise missile strikes on Syrian Government positions in April came despite warnings from US intelligence and military officers that they had no evidence Syria had committed the sarin gas attack that it had been accused of. According to Hersh, one US officer remarked, “We know that there was no chemical attack... the Russians are furious. Claiming we have the real intel and know the truth... I guess it didn’t matter whether we elected Clinton or Trump.” Hersh's report is based off interviews and reports he has done with US officials. He famously uncovered the My Lai Massacre, in which US soldiers committed widespread murder of Vietnamese civilians in the Vietnam War. United States Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders' wife Jane Sanders is being investigated by the FBI for bank fraud. When Mrs. Sanders was president of Burlington College in Vermont, she allegedly lied on a 2010 loan application for $10 million USD to expand the college, in order to apply for the loan. Mrs. Sanders allegedly claimed Burlington College had $2.6 million USD when in actuality, it only had $676,000 USD. Mrs. Sanders also was unpopular as president of the college for leading Burlington to bankruptcy last year, and was kicked out by the people angry about her bank fraud claims. Bernie Sanders was also accused of pressuring banks to accept the loan, and Mr. Sanders called these allegations "nonsense."
